Here's what's HOT at Vine Wine Shop:
AAlto PS 2003 (Wine Club Price $96.90/Bottle - Reg.$114)
"The 2003 Aalto PS is purple/black with an unusually expressive nose for this hot vintage. It reveals smoke, toast, vanilla spice, blueberry, and blackberry jam. This is followed by a fleshy wine with excellent depth and full-body." 2/07 Wine Advocate, 93 points!
ALBAN VINEYARDS "REVA Edna Valley Estate Syrah 2004 (Wine Club Price $83.30/Bottle - Reg.$98) From "The First American Winery and Vineyard Established Exclusively for Rhône Varieties" -- this release received 96 points from Robert Parker: "A superb offering from the Reva Vineyard, the 2004 Syrah (12,000 bottles produced) boasts a blue/black/purple color in addition to gorgeous aromas of blackberry liqueur, creosote, graphite, and a hint of smoky oak. It is an intense, dense, stunning effort with huge tannin as well as a full-bodied, long finish." (8/06)
Andrew Will "Sorella" COLUMBIA VALLEY 2003 (Wine Club Price $68.43/Bottle - Reg.$80.50) “In honor of his departed wife, Camarda has changed the label of the floral, dark berry-scented 2003 Sorella; it is now adorned with a painting of Annie. An assemblage of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Petit Verdot, it is a structured, medium-bodied wine with outstanding concentration, freshness, focus, and length. Notes of toasty oak intermingled with red cherries, blackberries, elderberries, cassis, and currants are found in its expressive flavor profile. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2022.” (Robert Parker, 5/06)
Battley "Sojourn" 2003 (Wine Club Price $47.60/Bottle - Reg.$56) "Battely’s French-styled offerings include the stunning 2003 Sojourn, a blend of 60% Shiraz and 40% Durif from 6-year-old vines (shockingly young for the quality of this wine). Although the alcohol is nearly off the charts, this is a relatively elegant red from a cool climate region not far from one of Australia’s top ski areas. Its inky/purple color is followed by a fabulous perfume of white flowers interwoven with blueberry liqueur, crushed rock, creosote, and graphite aromas. There is superb fruit intensity, fine acidity, a full-bodied, layered palate, and a finish that lasts nearly 60 seconds. This amazing, world-class wine possesses singular characteristics. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2020."
Robert Parker-96 points (10/05)
BLANKIET ESTATE Paradise Hills Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 (Wine Club Price $211.65/Bottle - Reg.$249) Blankiet Estate was created in 1996, and Helen Turley was hired as winemaker and responsible for the first eight vintages. Furthermore: “There are just over 1000 cases of the Cabernet Sauvignon, which is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the hillside of the Blankiet estate. The 2003, showing an almost “liqueur of rocks” character, is a huge, gigantic Cabernet Sauvignon that is intense purple in color, very full-bodied, with notes of coffee, graphite, blackberry, blueberry, and cassis. The striking minerality comes forth in the flavors as well, and the wine reveals refined, but high tannins, a massive texture, and awesome concentration. Give this wine 4-5 years of bottle age and drink it over the following 30 years. It is a stunning Cabernet Sauvignon that is showing even better out of bottle that it did from barrel." Robert Parker -- 95 points (12/05)
Carlton Cellars Road's End Oregon Pinot Noir 2004 (Wine Club Price $59.50/Bottle - Reg.$70) Ken Wright blends Pinot -- the master of single vineyard pinot noir makes a blended wine for his buddy Dave Grooters, proprietor of Road's End. It's a blend of Canary Hill, Nysa & McCrone vineyards -- all long-time Ken Wright properties. Like the previous vintages it's a bold and forward fruit bomb -- with creamy and rich flavors of wild berries that linger through a long, fruit-based finish. No tannins to speak of, with relative low acidity. Already quite enjoyable, but it won't hurt to cellar for awhile -- and VERY limited!
Château Le Gay 2003 (Wine Club Price $86.70/Bottle - Reg.$102) This amazing blend of Merlot & Cabernet Franc -- with its bouquet of blue & black fruits, licorice, crushed rocks & cold steel -- comes from Pomerol, the tiniest Bordeaux region of all. This particular house is situated between Châteaus Petrus & Lafleur. Need we say more???
Clos des Feés «la petite Sibérie» 2002 (Wine Club Price $144.50/Bottle - Reg.$170) This is a rare, single-vineyard release from the highly-regarded Clos des Feés -- located on rugged schiste and slate-laden terroir in the Côtes du Roussillon Villages, France. This awesome offering is hyper-rich and flavor-packed -- powerful, with a highly-generous concentration of 100% Grenache Noir!
Failla Viognier Alban Vineyard 2005 (Wine Club Price $35.70/Bottle - Reg.$42) "It is not easy to fashion Viognier into a complex wine, but Ehren Jordan has handled this fickle varietal beautifully. His 2005 Viognier Alban Vineyard boasts notes of quince, crushed rocks, white flowers, and exotic tropical fruits in its well-defined aromatics. Dry, medium-bodied, and intensely fruity, this fresh, character-filled white can be enjoyed over the next 1-2 years as it is atypically complex for a California Viognier." Robert Parker - 91 pts (12/06)
Hundred Acre Ancient Way Vineyard "Summer's Block" 2004 (Wine Club Price $272/Bottle - Reg.$320) 100 percent shiraz -- and another wine destined for greatness by Napa-based Jason Woodbridge....This very special wine is made with serious old vines Shiraz sourced from low yielding (0.8 tons per acre!) vineyards in the Barossa Valley. Every attention to detail was taken and no stone left unturned to create this very rare, exceptional beauty. Only 600 cases made!
LA SIRENA SYRAH SANTA INEZ VALLEY 2003 (Wine Club Price $59.50/Bottle - Reg. $70) “Why ‘La Sirena’? The name ‘La Sirena’ means ‘the Mermaid’ in Spanish and Italian. I chose it because I was looking for something fun and magical (like wine) and because I love to scuba dive as well as make wine. Our first vintage of La Sirena was 1994 and we made only a Sangiovese that year. The first Cabernet was made in 1996 and we no longer made the Sangiovese after the 1999 vintage due to a vineyard change. There are currently two wines made under this label; Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Production is always small, focusing on fine wines, the best that can be made.” ~ Heidi Peterson Barrett, Winemaker, La Sirena Wines
Pago del Ama Syrah 2002 (Wine Club Price $72.25/Bottle - Reg.$85) The 4-hectare vineyard created by celebrated chef Adolfo Munoz is located in urban Toledo. First the wine was for his family and restaurant, but soon Cigarral Santa Maria was producing 200 cases of one of Spain's greatest pure Syrah bottlings mostly for restaurants...this is a highly unusual and rare bottle of Spanish wine!
Patricia Green cellars Pinot Noir "Notorious" Yamhill County (Wine Club Price $71.40/Bottle - Reg.$84) "Dark purple. The exotic, intensely floral bouquet runs the dark fruit gamut, with sexy Asian spice accents and a suggestion of smoky bacon. Sweet, round and suave in the mouth, with impressive depth to its blackberry and raspberry preserve flavors. The spice notes build through the long, sweet finish, which features a gentle tannic spine. This should be catnip to fans of sweet, spicy New World pinot."
Peter Michael "Ma belle-Fille" Sonoma County Chardonnay 2003 (Wine Club Price $76.49/Bottle - Reg.$89.99) "The 2003 Chardonnay Ma Belle-Fille reveals a slightly greenish hue to its medium straw color. More tightly knit than its siblings, with more minerality as well as full, powerful, nearly tannic flavors, it is a rich, concentrated wine made from a south-facing hillside vineyard. It should age nicely for 5-7 years." Robert Parker-93 pts (12/05)
Rusden Barossa Valley "Chookshed" Zinfandel 2003 (Wine Club Price $72.25/Bottle - Reg.$85) On the winemaker by Robert Parker: "If you haven’t yet noticed, Christian Canute is one of Australia’s finest young mavericks. At the ripe old age of 28, he’s doing work that suggests someone with twice as much experience." (10/06)
